What Should You Expect E3 This Year?
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is quickly approaching and with it, rampant speculation. Rumors of game announcements spread through the internet like wildfire, but luckily, a short list of the most popular confirmed games (playable or not) is as follows.
First up are the confirmed exclusive games for each platform. These games have been confirmed to appear at E3 in either a playable form or not. Either way, we’re getting some news on these exclusives.
New Uncharted – Playstation 4
Like most games on the list, little is known about Uncharted for the Playstation 4. Even the NAME of the game is unknown. But one thing is for sure. If it follows in the footsteps of the previous Uncharted games, it’s going to kick ass. The teaser trailer for the game, released less than a year ago, is above.
Super Smash Bros. – Wii U, 3DS
Little by little, Nintendo has been announcing details of their latest star-studded beat-em-up, Super Smash Bros. New playable characters, maps and items make the wait for the game THAT much harder. With the 3DS version dropping in the summer, whatever Nintendo decides to reveal at E3 will most likely concern the Wii U version which drops later this year.
Sonic Boom – Wii U, 3DS
Launching alongside a companion television show, Sonic Boom seeks to revamp the blue hedgehog with new styles and gameplay which makes all 4 characters work together. As previously mentioned, Sega and Nintendo will seek to revive the struggling franchise with this new look.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate – 3DS
Capcom’s RPG Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate looks to be the best installment in the series yet, featuring thee-dimensional movement and improved combat systems including environmental advantages. The game is already released in Japan, but we hope to see more about a North American release this E3.
The Legend of Zelda – Wii U
Last, but certainly far from least in the exclusive category, is a Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U. We’ve been waiting for this one since E3 2011 when the game was first teased on the Wii U. GORGEOUS gameplay and innovation using the Wii U Gamepad will make this Legend of Zelda title one for the history books. If Mario Kart 8 or Super Smash Bros. don’t do it, this is the game that will drive Nintendo Wii U sales through the roof.
Next up are confirmed titles that will appear on more than one platform.
Alien: Isolation – PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC
First-person survival game Alien: Isolation has players simultaneously trying to survive on a decommissioned space station and crapping their pants. The game looks as promising as it does scary, but more will be revealed at this year’s E3.
Call of Duty - PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC (?)
This ONE image, via IGN, is about all we have about the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise. It is not yet known which consoles the title will be released on, but it’s safe to say Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC will all be receiving Call of Duty.
Destiny - PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC
Destiny, the next money baby from Bungie, is a first-person shooter who’s main focus is on that multiplay-ability (is that even a word?) In other words, players in the post-apocalyptic world could either work together or “lone wolf” it to keep hope for humanity alive.
Dragon Age Inquisition - PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC
The third installment in BioWare’s Dragon Age series will allow characters to choose certain races (unlike Dragon Age II). The plot focuses on an order of warriors, led by you, who attempt to seek out a supernatural being manipulating events in the world causing chaos and destruction to run rampant.
Ultra Street Fighter IV – PC, Xbox 360, PS3
E3 will reveal more details, but the Ultra Street Fighter IV title update for Street Fighter IV will include several new characters, stages modes. Ultimate Street Fighter IV will be available both as a download and as a physical disc. It is still unsure of what the prices will be, but most of us are still going to end up buying it.
